The Book is the brainchild of Michael Pierce. As a boy he watched the Battle of Britain raging over the Sussex Downs and it made a lasting impression upon him. Unquestionably the most important single battle ever fought by Britain , it was a triumph of what Winston Churchill called ‘The Few’ against the might of Hitler’s Luftwaffe. In 1988 with the 50th anniversary pf the battle imminent , Pierce wondered what he could do to honour ‘The Few’. The result is a book to treasure and to pass on to your grandchildren. It comprises the individual thoughts and feelings of twenty five surviving Battle of Britain aircrew and includes a silhouette portrait of each man as he was at the time of publication, together with , where possible , a photograph of him, taken in 1940, a handwritten reminiscence bring those hectic days powerfully to life , and a photograph of personal memorabilia telling its own story.
